For the 10th time the Carnival of Cultures reveals the german capital its most positive sides: international, culturally diverse, tolerant and it's lust for life.
The participants of the Carnival of Cultures finance their performance on their own. Therefore the Carnival procession should be considered as a valuable gift given to the capital's inhabitants and visitors by 4.500 artists from more than 70 nations from all over the world. The street became the stage where the participants showed that they are a firm part of the city and it's cultural scene.
You can see a wide area of cultural presentations: HipHop from Neukoelln meet Soca from the Caribbean, colourful masks from Bolivia came across impressive giants from a far world, Italians sent identities on a journey and people from Angola rapped against racism. The street parade proofed that it is much more than just folklore, it's an expression of Berlin's diverse lived-in worlds, it presents carnival art and questions social and political positions.
While starting in 1995 with 2,200 protagonists and about 50,000 visitors after 10 years there are about 1.3 million visitors at the 4-day street festival Carnival of Cultures. (see: www.karneval-berlin.de)
